Graphic designer Olga Wójcik, based in Radomsko, Poland, is the figure behind brand name Machonis, widely known for exclusive digital graphics of men's contemporary fashion on cartoon characters. Jonathan Mckinnon: Shed light on your brand name Machonis.
Olga Wójcik: Machonis means penguin in French. It's a pseudonym that was created inadvertently.
What originally made you want to become an graphic designer?
It was just a hobby in the beginning. I started with photography which led to me creating photomontages in Photoshop, and now I primarily design vector graphics.
Describe your approach to design.
It took me several years to develop my skills. When I started designing, I decided that I would only focus on the cartoons of my childhood. I like to combine elements of modernity with tradition, so I mix/match streetwear and high-fashion brands in my designs. Adobe Illustrator is the main design software I use, but I've yet to fully tap into the program's capabilities. To be honest, I have poor computer hardware at the moment, so each of my art projects take a couple of hours from start to finish.
Name three cartoon characters you enjoy styling with streetwear.
Bart Simpson, Goku, and Homer Simpson.
Are American fashion trends influential in Poland?
Streetwear from America is becoming quite popular in Poland. However, there are many people here who don’t know about popular brands like Supreme.
What are your favorite fashion brands?
Bart Simpson is the most stylish cartoon character in your portfolio. Where do you get inspiration from when designing cartoon character outfits?
